An international agreement recognizes that the meridian running through England and Greenwich is officially considered the prime meridian. Governments never wanted to accept the Greenwich Meridian as the main meridian. Because navigation over long distances was difficult, in 1884 the U.S. President Chester Arthur, in an international conference, considered the Greenwich Meridian, which shows 25 countries with a single line, as the prime meridian.
